Driving Across the Country

So we have arrived in one piece after our four day trek in the car with two small children and a dog.
Before we left I was at the store buying things to entertain Sophia and Hannah in the car and someone in line said to me, "I just put on the DVD player and the kids watch movies the whole way. " I thought to myself, "Sophia won't even watch 5 minutes of TV at home and when we went to Sweden she only made it through the first 5 minutes of Madagascar." So instead we had lots of other entertainment along the way.
The first day we were doing great. The stops for meals were longer than I had hoped (and hour and a half) but all was well until about 5 hours into the trip Sophia says. "I don't have to throw up." I asked her "Are you sure you are okay?" She responds, "Yes, I don't have to throw up." We had this interaction a couple more times. I should have known what was coming. Then again hind sight is 20/20. Sure enough she says, "Mommy, I have to throw up now." Of course this is on a road with no shoulder to pull off on. So I tell Joel to quickly find a bag (but they are buried and he can't find it in time.) So sure enough. She threw up all over the car, car seat, and herself. We finally got pulled over, cleaned up the car, car seat and Sophia with a whole package of baby wipes. To which Sophia responds. "I feel much better now." This stop of course added 45 more minutes onto the drive.
We decided to just keep on driving and got into a hotel about 11 p.m. and settled around midnight. Hannah woke us up at 6 a.m. and we were on the road again. We made it a shorter day and spent the night with some old friends who had moved. The next day we spent a little more time with our friends and got on the road after lunch and then spent the night in a hotel again. Today we arrived safely at my parents house around 6 p.m.
Overall the girls did great. Sophia read, colored, played play dough, looked through her view finder, played "I spy", sang and danced to her CD's, talked about our upcoming move and new house. Hannah slept, ate, sucked on the pacifier, slept, ate, pulled out Paige's hair, slept, ate, danced to music, slept, ate. You get the picture. Paige just laid between the two girls and did great.
When we get our computer up I will post some pictures with this post of the three of them in the car together. Right now we are glad to be out of the car and at my parents house to have a day to regroup before we close on the house early Monday.
