Joel's sister, Kristen, was out visiting us a week before Joel's birthday. She came out to support Joel as he ran his Canyonlands Half Marathon and raised money for Team In Training - Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. Kristen is a cancer survivor and her and her husband have been participating in these events for a number of years. This is Joel's first time. Joel finished in just under two hours and ran all 13 miles at a pace of 8:58 per mile. I can't even run one mile that fast. When they got home Kristen and the girls made Joel a cake for his early birthday.
