Then Saturday morning we went downtown and went to the local merchants and did a little trick or treating there. Sophia and Hannah made it about 2-3 blocks and then decided that they had lots of suckers so they did not need any more candy. (I think that they were a bit cold as well. It always seems to be cold at Halloween here. I remember that from growing up here.)
That night we decided that we would not go to a lot of houses but instead just a few on our block. We got all dressed up but then when it was time for us to go out, Sophia did not want to go. She wanted to stay home with Daddy and hand out candy. I kept trying to convince her to go with Hannah and me but she did not want to go. She said she had enough candy.
She was really into handing out the candy. After a couple times of handing candy out to people she told Joel, "I can do it. I am doing a great job. I am so shy but I am going really good giving candy to people." She was so excited to try and push herself and hand out candy. It seemed to be a bit much for her to go to strangers' houses and ask them for candy. The only problem was the after about an hour the trick or treaters trickled off. Sophia really wanted to keep giving out candy but no one was coming. One of the problems was that we have a motion light outside so it would not say on so that people would know that we had candy. To remedy this problem Sophia decided we needed to sit outside (in the freezing cold) and hand out candy. People were not coming very much so we got chairs and sat outside for about a half an hour with just one taker.

Finally, Sophia decided that other people must be waiting for someone to come to their house as well so we better go to their houses because they wanted to give us candy. So the three of us went up and down the block and trick or treated. Hannah would say "Trick or treat" because Sophia was too shy. It was an amazing Halloween because Sophia taught us that Halloween is about giving as well as getting.
