A Bird Is In My Room
On Saturday night about 3 a.m. we woke up to Sophia screaming "Mommy!" It was a different scream and the usual get in here I need my blankets fixed cry out for Mommy. It was a scream of terror. Joel and I rushed into the girls room and Sophia was sitting straight up in her bed. We asked her what was wrong and she said, "A bird is trying to get into my room." I tried to reassure her that it was just a dream but she wanted me to sleep on the floor next to her. So I obliged. About every 20 minutes or so I would check on her to see if she was asleep yet and she was laying quietly in her bed with her eyes wide open for about an hour and a half. She was scared. The next day as I was putting her down for nap we saw the bird again. We realized it was the shadow of the antenna for the girls monitor. She told me that it was a woodpecker who was trying to peck through the wall. So we got the monitor positioned so that it was all better. Later that night we were going into the house and suddenly Sophia says to me, "Mom, its the woodpecker. I hear it again. We stopped and listened. Sure enough - tap, tap, tap. It was the ice water dripping down the metal drain spout as the weather was getting warmer - drop, drop, drop against the metal. So we talked about how it sounded like a woodpecker but was not a woodpecker. It is amazing the places our imagination takes us.
