Lord, have mercy...

Sophia always is breaking into some rhythmic cadence - a favorite bedtime book, a poem, or a song that she's heard and has somehow stuck in some compartment of her mind, only to be randomly opened whenever it's ready to come out. This morning I heard her saying several times, "Lord have mercy." A few moments later I heard, "In peace let us pray to the Lord" and "for the peace of the whole world, for the [murmur murmur] church of God, let us pray to the Lord." If you're not part of a liturgical church assembly, these are all words for the Kyrie, sung at the beginning of worship between pastor and congregation.

Mom and Dad have never done anything to try to teach Sophia these words. Pure osmosis. Who says "traditional" worship is irrelevant? And she's only 2!

Lord, have mercy.

When I was a pipsqueak, I told my mom that my favorite song was "Glory to God" (LBW setting 2)

Ethan used to sing along with the leader in church for the kyrie and the communion liturgy, while Olivia preferred singing Taize songs while swinging in the playground. "Jesus remember me..." has a great swinging rhythm!
